Terms of use

Last updated: October 27, 2026

These Terms of Use apply when you use StrideBuddy. You must accept the current Terms and Privacy Policy, create or sign in to a StrideBuddy account, and complete any required diary migration before you can use StrideBuddy. The Privacy Policy explains how information is handled and the choices available to you. Do not use StrideBuddy if you do not agree to these Terms.

StrideBuddy is provided by Andrea Federici, an independent developer in Italy.

What StrideBuddy is

StrideBuddy is a training diary for competitive track-and-field athletes, available as an iPhone app and as a web app at web.stridebuddy.app. A StrideBuddy account is required. The server account is the main copy of your diary and your weekly plan. The iPhone app keeps a copy on your device so you can use it offline, and the web app keeps a copy in your browser while you are signed in. Your devices and the web app can restore and sync the same diary and plan. You can log workouts, read your diary, track records, and use enabled AI features, such as Plan, Insights, and filling in a session you describe in your own words.

Eligibility

You must be legally allowed to use StrideBuddy where you live, and you must be at least 18 years old. StrideBuddy is intended for adults aged 18 or older, not for children or teenagers. Do not use the app if you are under 18.

Your diary and content

You are responsible for the workouts, notes, profile information, personal bests, race results, tags, and other content you add to StrideBuddy. You allow StrideBuddy to keep this content, your Plan setup answers, and the training weeks Plan suggests in your server account to sync and restore your diary and plan. If AI features are enabled, selected diary data required for a request may be sent to StrideBuddy’s backend and to Google Gemini or OpenAI, as explained in the Privacy Policy. If you describe a session in your own words, what you typed or said is sent too.

You allow StrideBuddy to process the content you enter only when necessary to run the app, provide enabled AI features, protect the service, comply with the law, and improve reliability and safety. Do not enter content that you have no right to use or do not want enabled app features to process.

Accounts, offline use, and sync

StrideBuddy supports Sign in with Apple and Google through Firebase Authentication. Each sign-in method creates a separate StrideBuddy account, even when Apple and Google use the same email address. Keep access to the provider account you use for StrideBuddy. Support cannot move a diary to another account based only on an email claim.

After account setup and any required migration succeed, StrideBuddy saves changes on your device or in your browser before it sends them to the server. A temporary network or service problem should not stop local logging. When devices change the same entry while offline, StrideBuddy uses server revisions rather than device clocks. It may ask you to choose between two versions so it does not silently discard a note or edit.

For an existing diary, server sync starts only after the app and server match stable entry IDs, counts, and content hashes. If they do not match, migration stops before the server becomes the main copy. The diary remains saved on the device and in private iCloud, but StrideBuddy stays at the retry and support screen until migration succeeds. It does not continue in the older local and iCloud mode. After successful migration, the old private iCloud records remain unchanged as a recovery archive and are not an active sync copy.

Ownership

You continue to own the diary content you put into StrideBuddy. StrideBuddy does not claim ownership of your workouts, notes, profile details, personal bests, or other diary entries.

StrideBuddy or its licensors own the app design, website, software, names, logos, visual elements, generated layouts, and service functionality. Intellectual-property laws protect these materials. These Terms allow you to use StrideBuddy as your personal training diary, but they do not transfer ownership of StrideBuddy to you.

Feedback

If you send StrideBuddy an idea, report, suggestion, or other feedback, you allow StrideBuddy to use it to improve, run, and promote the app without paying you. Your private diary content remains yours.

AI features and AI disclosure

AI-powered training suggestions, race predictions, and session logging are a central part of StrideBuddy. After you accept the current Terms, Privacy Policy, and AI disclosure, Plan, Insights, filling in sessions you describe, and future AI features may run within the app’s generation limits. StrideBuddy does not ask you to consent before each individual AI request.

Plan uses AI to suggest a training week from your Plan setup answers, your diary, and your training profile. Suggested sessions, target times, and target effort are estimates. They are not a prescription, and they may not suit you on a given day.

You can describe a session in your own words, by typing or speaking, and StrideBuddy fills in the log form for you. You always see the filled-in session before it is saved, so you can check and correct it, because it may get details wrong. StrideBuddy does not keep the text or the recording after the request.

Each AI feature uses only the selected diary data it needs, as the Privacy Policy explains. StrideBuddy does not send your complete diary history to an AI provider.

StrideBuddy keeps your Plan setup answers, the training weeks Plan suggests, and Plan’s feedback on workouts you save in your server account, so the web app and your devices show the same plan.

StrideBuddy’s AI features use the paid Google Gemini API and OpenAI’s API. Google states that it does not use data submitted to paid Gemini API services to train Google AI models. Google may process Gemini API input and output under its applicable terms and privacy commitments, including the Gemini API Additional Terms and Google Privacy Policy.

The race predictions and session comparisons in Insights run on StrideBuddy’s server from a summary of your diary that leaves out notes, as the Privacy Policy explains. OpenAI states that it does not use data sent to its API to train its models by default. OpenAI’s standard API data retention applies, under which OpenAI may keep API input and output for up to 30 days to monitor for abuse, under its applicable terms and privacy commitments, including its Data Processing Addendum and the OpenAI Privacy Policy. Race predictions are estimates, not a promise of what you will run.

AI output may be wrong, incomplete, delayed, or unsuited to your circumstances. StrideBuddy does not provide medical advice, diagnoses, injury-risk scores, emergency support, or a guaranteed training plan. It cannot replace a coach, a clinician, or your own judgment.

A master toggle in Settings controls all AI features. Turning it off prevents future AI requests. You can still log workouts and view your diary.

Optional product analytics

StrideBuddy separately asks whether you want to share limited product-usage analytics. Product analytics is optional, is off until you enable it, and is not a condition of these Terms or of using the app. You can change the Product Analytics setting in Settings without changing the AI setting.

If enabled, the app sends a small set of interaction and reliability events to PostHog EU Cloud. It does not send workout notes, Note text, detailed workout content, results, AI prompts or output, contact information, advertising identifiers, or location. The Privacy Policy contains the full analytics description and retention period.

Third-party services

Some parts of the app and backend rely on third-party services. These include Apple for Sign in with Apple and older private iCloud archives, Google for Google sign-in, Firebase Authentication for account identity, Render for hosting the backend and the web app and for account storage, Google Gemini and OpenAI for AI generation, and PostHog EU Cloud when optional product analytics is enabled. StrideBuddy does not control those services, and their own terms and privacy commitments may apply. Except where applicable law says otherwise, StrideBuddy is not responsible for third-party services.

Acceptable use

You must not misuse StrideBuddy, its backend, or its AI features. In particular, you agree not to:

Plan workouts and physical activity

Running, jumping, throwing, and strength training carry a risk of injury, and some sessions may be too hard for you on a given day. Plan cannot examine you, does not know your medical history, and cannot see how you feel during a session.

You decide whether to do each suggested session and how to do it. Change or skip any session that does not feel right. If you feel pain, dizziness, chest discomfort, unusual shortness of breath, or otherwise feel unwell, end the session immediately and get medical help if you need it. If you have an injury, an illness, a heart or other health condition, are pregnant, or are returning after a long break, talk to a doctor before you start training with Plan. Train in a safe place, use suitable equipment, and follow the rules of the track, gym, or facility you use.

You take part in physical activity at your own risk. To the fullest extent the law allows, StrideBuddy is not responsible for injury, illness, or loss that results from doing a session Plan suggested. This does not limit liability that applicable law does not allow StrideBuddy to limit, including liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence.

No professional advice

StrideBuddy organizes your diary and provides general feedback and suggested training based on the information you enter. Plan is a software feature, not a qualified human coach. StrideBuddy does not offer medical, clinical, therapeutic, legal, or professional coaching services. Speak to a qualified professional if you have pain, an injury, an illness, or another health concern.

App Store terms

If you download StrideBuddy from Apple’s App Store, Apple’s terms and its standard licensed application terms may also apply. Apple is not responsible for StrideBuddy’s AI features, backend, support, or privacy practices unless Apple’s terms state otherwise.

Changes and availability

StrideBuddy may change, suspend, or end features, including account sync and AI features, when the app or its legal, provider, security, or operational requirements change. After account setup and any required migration succeed, the downloaded diary remains available during an ordinary backend outage and changes wait to sync. Before the first migration succeeds, a network or service problem may keep the app at the retry screen. If a change materially affects the data, provider, purpose, or risk involved in AI processing, AI features will not run again until you accept the change in the app.

Disclaimers and limits

StrideBuddy is provided as available, without a promise that it will always be accurate, uninterrupted, or free of errors. To the fullest extent the law allows, StrideBuddy is not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for decisions you make based on the app’s output. These Terms do not limit any right that applicable law does not allow StrideBuddy to limit.

Termination

You may stop using StrideBuddy at any time. StrideBuddy may limit or block access to its backend when necessary to protect the service, comply with the law, enforce these Terms, or prevent abuse.

You can delete your account at the bottom of Settings after signing in again with the same Apple or Google account used by your current StrideBuddy account. Account deletion permanently removes the active StrideBuddy server diary, Plan content, Insights data, and operational backend records linked to its registered installations. It does not automatically remove an older private iCloud archive, iOS backup, or export that you control. Deleting the app removes only the downloaded copy on that device. Signing out of the web app removes the copy kept in that browser.

Legal terms

If a court finds any part of these Terms unenforceable, the rest will remain in effect. A delay by StrideBuddy in enforcing a provision does not waive its right to enforce that provision later. You may not transfer your rights or obligations under these Terms without StrideBuddy’s permission. StrideBuddy may transfer these Terms during a merger, acquisition, reorganization, asset sale, or similar business transfer.

These Terms and the Privacy Policy form the entire agreement between you and StrideBuddy for use of the app, the web app, and the website, apart from any additional terms that Apple or another app marketplace applies to your download or purchase.
